Noise in an insect outbreak model
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the steady state properties of an insect (spruce budworm) outbreak model in the presence of Gaussian white noise. Based on the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation the steady state solution of the probability distribution function and its extrema have been investigated. It was found that fluctuations of the insect birth rate reduces the population of the insects while fluctuations of predation rate and the noise correlation can prevent the population of the insects from going into extinction. Noise in the model can induce a phase transition. Pacs numbers: 87. 10. +e, 05. 40. -a, 02. 50. Ey.

A Model to Study the Phenotypic Changes of Insect Cell Transfection by Copepod Super Green Fluorescent Protein (cop-GFP) in Baculovirus Expression System
Background: Baculovirus expression system is one of the most attractive and powerful eukaryotic expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins. The presence of a biomarker is required to monitor transfection efficiency or protein expression levels in insect cells. Methods: The aim of this study was to construct a baculovirus expression vector encoding a copepod super green fluore...
متن کاملAnalytic Approximation of Invasion Wave Amplitude Predicts Severity of Insect Outbreaks
Outbreaks of phytophagous forest insects are largely driven by host demographics and spatial effects of dispersal. We develop a structured integrodifference equation (IDE) outbreak model that tracks the demographics of sedentary hosts under insect infestation pressure. The model is appropriate for a spectrum of pests attacking the later age classes of long-lived hosts, including mountain pine b...
متن کاملEcological outbreak dynamics and the cusp catastrophe
Many ecological processes exhibit trajectories which can be suitably represented by stable equilibria or smooth limit cycles. However, a third kind of ecological process involves intermittent, abrupt, and drastic changes in densities, here termed 'outbreak dynamics', which require different modelling frameworks. One such framework, the cusp catastrophe, is used here in a modelling study of a pa...
متن کاملA Model for Controlling the Outbreak of Water and Foodborne Diseases after Natural Disasters
Background: After natural disasters the likelihood of outbreak of infectious diseases especially water and foodborne diseases, increases due to population displacement, increasing risk factors, environmental changes, changing living conditions and increasing vulnerability to pathogens. This research was conducted with the aim of designing a model for controlling the outbreak of water and foodbo...
متن کاملEffect of Myricetin on the Prevention of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss-An Animal Model
Introduction: Exposure to hazardous noise induces one of the forms of acquired and preventable hearing loss that is noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Considering oxidative stress as the main mechanism of NIHL, it is possible that myricetin can protect NIHL by its antioxidant effect. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the preventive effect of myricetin on NIHL. <br /...
